Reflective in Twelve Beauty, and his philosophy towards health and beauty. Below, Pedro shares his favourite tips on Summer care, both inside and out…
Changing seasons inevitably means a wardrobe change – weather permitting. However, do we stop to think about changing up our skincare and make-up routine? Well we should. Our skin reacts differently to distinct temperatures and environments, and it is a delicate balancing act to ensure our complexion is kept nourished and cell regeneration is stimulated, as it is zapped by the sun’s rays. Ideally we should switch to lighter textures so during daytime it is more effective to use a serum than a rich cream to compensate the skin’s excessive perspiration.
A healthy diet is an obvious one but enjoy foods rich in carotenoids such as Cantaloupe Melon, Spinach, Mango, and Apricots. These foods are rich in antioxidants, which combat free radicals. Combine this with maintaining a good cleansing regime and this will all help you to achieve beautiful glowing Summer skin.
For those lucky enough to be heading for a beach holiday, you are probably looking at which SPF to choose which is a must. However, to defend and protect yourself against UV, sunscreens are not enough. For the face I recommend a light serum packed with powerful antioxidants to help fight free-radical damage – wear this underneath your favourite SPF product. One of the best summer antioxidants is the Buddleja (which I use across all my formulations), derived from an organically grown alpine plant. The extract it is very powerful as an antioxidant (1ml of Buddleja = 8mg of Vitamin C), in addition to having DNA protecting properties against UV damages – making it the perfect complement to your sun care regime. One of our essential Summer products is the TWELVE Ideal Rebalancing Level Serum. I’m a fan of light textures and this wonder product decreases the production of sebum and reduces the sizes of pores – perfect for a natural matte finish.
As the summer nights drift away… we tend to eat later and go to bed later too. Higher nighttime temperatures can also impact on our precious shuteye and the quality of our sleep. My advice is to invest in a good night cream that provides just the optimum level of moisture and nutrients to aid your skin be replenished and nourished when you’re catching those zzzz’s. I can’t get enough of the TWELVE Complete Regeneration Night Cream, which contains an exclusive combination of ingredients that are rich in linoleic acid and phytosterols. This rich cream rejuvenates and restores skin while you are sleeping, which is the perfect time for skin regeneration. Whether escaping to sunnier shores, or enjoying a summer in the city, this is really a must pack to counteract daytime exposure to the sun’s rays.
